HUD recently sent out a reminder that as of Sept. 30, 2009, site owners and managers will need to verify Social Security Numbers (SSNs) for all prospective or current household members who declare themselves to be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or eligible noncitizen. According to HUD, the requirement for the disclosure of SSNs “does not apply to individuals in mixed families who do not contend eligible immigration status under HUD's noncitizens regulations.” And the proration of assistance and screening for these families should continue according to existing requirements.
