HUD has extended the Disaster Voucher Program (DVP) for all pre-disaster public housing, project-based, homeless, and special needs housing families currently receiving DVP assistance. The deadline for the program had been Dec. 31, 2009, depending on the availability of funding and the number of families expected to be assisted. The new deadline is Sept. 30, 2010.

The extension is intended to allow adequate time for families eligible for tenant protection vouchers or vouchers provided through the Supplemental Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2009 to transition to the Housing Choice Voucher program. It applies only to those families already receiving DVP assistance, and does not permit any additional families to be admitted to the program.

Details about the DVP extension are available in HUD Notice PIH 2010-1 (HA). Questions may be directed to Trenessa Sidney in the Office of Public Housing and Voucher Programs at (202) 402-4303.
