President Biden Extends Federal Eviction Moratorium

On Jan. 20, 2021, President Biden signed an executive order mandating that the CDC extend the current eviction moratorium until at least March 31, 2021. While the extension is not yet published in the Federal Register, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the new director of the CDC, has agreed to implement the eviction moratorium extension.

The bipartisan coronavirus aid deal that passed in December extended the national eviction moratorium through Jan. 31. Before the CDC passed a national eviction ban, 43 states issued their own stays on the proceedings. Yet many of the statewide bans were in place for 10 weeks or less.
