At a recent conference of the National Low-Income Housing Council, HUD Secretary Ben Carson said the Trump administration will seek to include housing funding in a future infrastructure spending bill. Secretary Carson said this to alleviate worry about the Trump administration’s proposed budget cut of $6.2 billion from HUD.

More recently, in his first televised interview since becoming HUD secretary, Carson said wealthy homeowners in gentrified urban areas owe it to their poorer neighbors to help turn around blighted parts of America’s cities. During the interview, there was no mention of President Trump’s proposed cut to HUD’s budget. Instead, Secretary Carson talked broadly about removing blight across the country, focusing on the development of children, and encouraging wealthy Americans to help low-income communities.
